Kitchen renovation in Kitchener–Waterloo from a Mississauga workshop — measure, build, deliver, install

A manufacturer's reach is different from a contractor's. The product does not change with the address; the schedule does.

Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge are an hour west of our workshop along Highway 401, and they are the first region outside the GTA we serve as a matter of routine. The reason is the kind of business this is. A contractor’s reach is limited by how far the crew drives every morning; a manufacturer’s product is made in one place and installed wherever the house is. The cabinets that leave 1645 Sismet Rd for a kitchen in Streetsville are the same cabinets that leave it for a kitchen in Kitchener. What changes is the schedule, and this guide explains how that works — the measure, the build, the delivery, the installation, the permits and the money — for a kitchen renovation in Kitchener–Waterloo done from Mississauga.

The service page, with the region in numbers and the permits by city, is kitchen cabinets for Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge; the business itself is described on the home page.

Step 1: a conversation before the drive

The first exchange is by phone or video with photos of the room and rough dimensions — the appliance wall, the window, the door positions, the ceiling height. That is enough to say whether the project is custom cabinets in the existing layout, a complete renovation with the layout changed, or a refresh, and to give you the shape of the quote. It is also how we avoid a wasted trip in either direction.

Step 2: the measure, booked into a Waterloo Region day

In-home measures for several homes in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge are booked on the same day. The measure is the same as a local one: the room, the services, the appliances you own (their dimensions set the cabinet openings), the floor level and the walls’ squareness, photographs of the panel and the plumbing. From it we draw the 3D design and the written, itemised quote in Canadian dollars with HST shown separately. You change anything you like at that stage; nothing is cut until you sign.

Step 3: the build, while your kitchen stays in use

The cabinets are manufactured in the Mississauga workshop — base, wall and tall cabinets, drawers, doors, end panels, fillers and trim — exactly as described under custom kitchen cabinets. The old kitchen stays in use throughout. If the project is a complete kitchen renovation, the countertop is ordered against the drawings and templated after the base cabinets are installed, which is the only way the seams land where the drawing says they will; tile, backsplash and fixtures are ordered to arrive for the installation window.

Step 4: delivery and installation

Cabinets arrive finished, not as flat-pack boxes to be assembled on your driveway, and the crew that built them installs them: fitting, levelling, anchoring, the hardware adjustments, then the countertop template. For a complete renovation, demolition is scheduled for the week the cabinets are ready — not weeks before — and licensed trades for plumbing and electrical are booked around the installation dates. Where the schedule needs local licensed trades, the quote names who does what, so a plumber in Waterloo and an electrician from Cambridge are on one timeline with the crew from Mississauga.

Permits: same Code, different city hall

The Ontario Building Code applies province-wide, so the rules you would read on our Mississauga permit guide apply in Waterloo Region as written: cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, flooring and a sink replaced in the same spot need no building permit; adding or relocating a plumbing fixture, drainage work, a new kitchen exhaust, enlarged windows or a removed wall do. The permit is issued by the municipality where the house is — the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo or the City of Cambridge — and electrical work is an Electrical Safety Authority permit filed by the licensed electrician anywhere in Ontario. We tell you which permits apply before you sign and price them as their own line.

The money, and where the distance shows

The cabinets are priced as they would be for a Mississauga kitchen; the workshop, the material and the hardware do not know the postcode. Travel and delivery are their own lines on the quote, so the cost of the distance is visible rather than folded into the price per cabinet, and grouping measures and installation days is what keeps those lines small. What drives the rest of the number is the same as anywhere — layout changes, cabinet construction and finish, countertop material, electrical scope, flooring — and is laid out, with dated 2026 market context, in what a kitchen renovation costs. Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act rules on written contracts, deposits and the 10-day cooling-off period apply in Waterloo Region exactly as in Peel; the contractor-vetting guide is written for the whole province.

Who this suits

Homeowners in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge who want cabinets built to their room rather than to a module, a complete renovation run by one team, and a workshop they can visit — it is an hour east, by appointment, with door samples, finishes and countertop slabs under one roof. Projects have already been completed in Waterloo Region; which of the company’s recent kitchens is the Kitchener one is being confirmed and will be captioned on the service page. Guelph, London and Thunder Bay have been served too — call first for those, so timing is confirmed before you plan around it. For Waterloo Region, start with the photos: request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Do you renovate kitchens in Kitchener and Waterloo?

Yes. Cabinets are manufactured in Mississauga and delivered finished; our own crew installs them, and the complete-renovation scope — removal, countertops, backsplash, flooring, plumbing and electrical hook-up, finishing — is available in the region with trades and travel priced as their own lines. Projects have been completed in Waterloo Region.

How far is the workshop from Kitchener?

About an hour west on Highway 401 in normal traffic. Measures and installation days are grouped so the crew travels once per stage, and the workshop at 1645 Sismet Rd, Unit 12 is open for visits by appointment.

Is a kitchen more expensive in Waterloo Region because of the travel?

The cabinets are priced the same as for a Mississauga kitchen; travel and delivery appear as separate lines on the written quote so you can see exactly what the distance costs. Quotes are in Canadian dollars with HST shown separately, after the in-home measure.

Who issues the permit for a kitchen in Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge?

The city where the house is. The Ontario Building Code applies province-wide, so cabinetry, countertops, backsplash and flooring need no building permit; relocating plumbing fixtures, drainage work, a kitchen exhaust, enlarged windows or a removed wall do, and electrical needs an Electrical Safety Authority permit filed by the licensed electrician.

How long does it take when the workshop is an hour away?

The build happens in the workshop while the old kitchen stays in use, exactly as for a local job; the distance affects scheduling of the measure and the installation days rather than the length of the work. Typical durations per step are published once the operator confirms them. [TBC]
