Logistics

How a Mississauga-built kitchen reaches Waterloo Region

Prime Kitchen and Bath manufactures cabinets in Mississauga and installs them in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge the same way it does in the western GTA: a phone or video consultation with photos, an in-home measure booked into a Waterloo Region day, a 3D design with a written itemised quote, the build in the workshop, then delivery of finished cabinets and installation by our own crew — with travel and delivery shown as their own lines on the quote.

A manufacturer's reach is different from a contractor's. Nothing about the product changes with the address — the same boxes, doors, finishes and hardware leave the same workshop — so what distance changes is the schedule. We group visits: measures for several Waterloo Region homes happen on one day, installation days are booked back to back, and cabinets arrive finished rather than being assembled on your driveway. That is why the region works at roughly an hour's drive and why we say so plainly for places further out.

This page is about the cabinets. For the whole kitchen — design, removal, countertops, flooring, trades and finishing — start at kitchen renovation in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge; bathrooms and legal basements in the region have their own pages.

What stays the same

The five-step process — consultation, measure, 3D design and quote, build, installation — the itemised quote in Canadian dollars with HST shown separately, nothing ordered before you sign off, and the installer being the person who built the cabinets. The pricing guide and its 2026 market context apply as written; the difference between a Streetsville kitchen and a Waterloo kitchen on the quote is the travel line, not the cabinet line.

  • About an hour west of the workshop on Highway 401; measures and installs grouped by day
  • Cabinets delivered finished from Mississauga; no on-site assembly of flat-pack boxes
  • Travel and delivery as separate quote lines — the cabinet price is the Mississauga price
  • Installation by the workshop crew; licensed local trades named on the quote where the schedule needs them
  • Workshop visits by appointment — door samples, finishes and slabs under one roof

Complete kitchen renovation

Complete kitchen renovations including flooring and tiling: site protection and removal, countertop templating and fabrication coordination, backsplash, floor levelling and tile, plumbing and electrical hook-up with licensed trades and permits as the work requires, then drywall, paint, trim, appliance fitting and the final clean — one written scope, one team.

  • Preparation: site protection, removal of existing cabinets and finishes, disposal, substrate assessment and repair; hazardous-material testing and removal arranged where relevant
  • Surfaces: countertop selection, templating and fabrication coordination; backsplash installation; floor levelling, underlayment and tile or other flooring — the scope states what is supplied and what is installed
  • Building systems: sink and faucet connections, appliance hook-ups, lighting, receptacles and ventilation, with licensed trades and permits as the work requires
  • Finishing and handover: drywall repair, paint, trim, appliance fitting, cleaning, final adjustments and care instructions; structural changes are assessed and approved separately

Inside the run

Inside the cabinets — where the money quietly matters

Open a fitting and the drawing shows which cabinet it lives in. Every one is specified per drawer on the 3D design, so the quote shows exactly what it adds.

Drawer bank

Three deep drawers beat doors for anything below the counter — pots, lids, small appliances — because you see everything without kneeling. Full-extension runners, soft-close.

Sink base

A pull-out for cleaning supplies and a tilt-out tray behind the false front for sponges; the plumbing is boxed so nothing sits in a puddle.

Corner solution

From a plain lazy Susan to articulated pull-outs that bring the whole corner to you. The right one depends on what you plan to store there, not on the catalogue.

Pull-out pantry

A tall, narrow pull-out beside the fridge replaces the cupboard you lose things in: every tin visible from both sides.

Waste and recycling pull-out

Two or three bins under the prep zone on the same runners as the drawers, so sorting happens where the peeling does.

Tall pantry and appliance garage

Full-height storage with internal drawers, and a counter-level cabinet that hides the toaster and kettle behind a lift-up door.

The inside of a cabinet decides whether a kitchen works on a Tuesday night. Cutlery and utensil inserts, a tray divider above the oven, a bin pull-out under the prep zone and a charging drawer are the fittings owners mention a year later — specified per drawer on the design, so the quote shows exactly what each one adds.

Countertops

Six countertop materials, compared honestly

Heat, stains, seams and care in plain words, with a relative tier instead of a price. The top is templated after the cabinets are in, whichever material you choose.

Which materials the workshop fabricates or installs, and the brands it is an authorized dealer for, is confirmed by the operator before this table goes live. [TBC — Q33/Q55]

Your material goes into the message of the quote form — change anything there. Nothing here is a price.

Proof

Projects in Waterloo Region and beyond

The operator's October 2026 catalogue states that completed projects include Waterloo Region, Guelph, London and Thunder Bay. The company's own photos now place two of them: a whole house in Doon South, Kitchener — kitchen, bathroom, media wall, millwork and entry closet — and a kitchen in Kortright Hills, Guelph, both photographed on 23 September 2026 and placed by the photos' own location data. All of them, with a traditional kitchen and two more white kitchens, are on the Our work page.

The operator confirms the year and the scope of each project in writing before launch; until then every caption says only what is in the picture. Ask for addresses of recent installs near you when you request a quote; we would rather you see a kitchen than a rendering.

Local context

Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge in numbers

The three cities together had 516,800 residents in 198,120 private households at the 2021 Census, with average after-tax household incomes (2020) of $99,300 in Waterloo, $91,500 in Cambridge and $87,800 in Kitchener — a housing stock of post-war bungalows, 1970s–90s subdivisions and newer builds that ages into kitchen renovation demand on the same cycle as Mississauga's.

What the numbers mean for a kitchen

Nearly 200,000 households is a market larger than many of the cities we work in day to day, and the income profile — Waterloo in particular — matches the custom-cabinet and complete-renovation projects the workshop is built for. The practical point for a homeowner is simpler: there are enough projects in the region for us to schedule measures and installations efficiently, which is what keeps the travel line on your quote small.

The houses are the familiar Ontario mix. Kitchener's older central neighbourhoods and Cambridge's Galt, Preston and Hespeler cores have compact kitchens where storage density and an opened wall are the wins; the subdivisions that grew along the Conestoga Parkway and Highway 8 in the 1970s–90s have the U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula that most owners replace with an island; Waterloo's newer suburbs and the uptown condos bring larger rooms and board rules respectively. The styles section and the small-kitchen guide apply as written.

Permits

Permits in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge

The Ontario Building Code applies province-wide, so the kitchen rules are the same as in Mississauga: cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, flooring and a sink replaced in the same spot need no building permit; adding or relocating a plumbing fixture, drainage work, a new kitchen exhaust, enlarged windows or a removed wall do. The permit is issued by the city where the house is — City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo or City of Cambridge — and electrical work is an Electrical Safety Authority permit filed by the licensed electrician.

We say which permits apply before you sign and price them as their own line. The reasoning is explained in kitchen terms in our permit guide; the City of Mississauga list it quotes is a plain-language version of the same provincial code your city applies. Ontario's Consumer Protection Act rules on written contracts, deposits and the 10-day cooling-off period apply in Waterloo Region exactly as they do in Peel — see how to choose a kitchen contractor in Ontario.

Questions

Kitchener–Waterloo–Cambridge questions, answered

Do you install kitchen cabinets in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge?

Yes. Cabinets are manufactured in our Mississauga workshop and delivered finished to the house, where our own crew fits, levels and anchors them. Projects have been completed in Waterloo Region (the operator's brief, October 2026). Measure visits and installation days are grouped so the crew travels once per stage.

Does the distance from Mississauga add to the price?

Travel and delivery are priced as their own lines on the written quote, never folded into the cabinet price, so you can see exactly what the distance costs. The cabinets themselves are priced the same as for a Mississauga kitchen: the workshop, the material and the hardware do not change with the postcode.

How does the in-home measure work when you are an hour away?

The first conversation is by phone or video with photos and rough dimensions; the in-home measure is booked into a Waterloo Region day alongside other visits. From the measure we draw the 3D design and the itemised quote; nothing is cut until you sign off.

Can you do a complete kitchen renovation in Waterloo Region, not just cabinets?

Yes — the complete renovation scope (preparation and removal, countertops, backsplash, flooring and tile, plumbing and electrical hook-up with licensed trades and permits, finishing) is available in the region, with trade coordination and travel priced transparently. Where the schedule needs local licensed trades, the quote names who does what.

Which city issues the building permit?

The municipality where the house is: the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo or the City of Cambridge. Cabinetry, countertops, backsplash and flooring do not need a building permit under the Ontario Building Code; relocating plumbing fixtures, drainage work, a new kitchen exhaust, enlarged windows or removing a wall do. Electrical work is an Electrical Safety Authority permit filed by the licensed electrician, anywhere in Ontario.

Do you also serve Guelph, London or Thunder Bay?

Projects have been completed in Guelph, London and Thunder Bay as well as Waterloo Region. Those are further, so call first: we confirm delivery and installation timing before you plan around it. Mississauga and the western GTA remain the everyday service area.

Can we see the workshop before ordering?

Yes, by appointment at 1645 Sismet Rd, Unit 12, Mississauga — about an hour east on the 401. Door samples, finishes and countertop slabs are there, and so are the people who will build your kitchen. Call +1 905-238-5666 or email [email protected].
